CRIME

Entry 8
10 May, 2010
Topic: Crime

In our time, many people are wealthy, others are not. Some people are satisfied with their way of life but others differ. People who might lack money, have certain mind disabilities or think differently commit what is called ‘crime.’ Going against the law because of murders, thefts, not obeying rules, and causing violence. All these are factors that relate to crime. Nowadays crime is a huge issue that revolves our daily lifestyle. Many people have or need security, CCTV cameras, etc in order to prevent crime.

Juvenile
http://www.abanet.org/crimjust/juvjus/12-3gris.html

This is an event that happened in our time. A fourteen year old has been charged of first-degree murder! That is outrageous. The child had committed a robbery as well as theft. It seems that he has been facing problems in his childhood or family as he was very shy and not talkative in any sense when it came to confession. He lied as well as tried to back up the rest of the people(friends) of his that were there during this event. He acted a lot younger than his real age, which was a problem. As stated previously crime cases might be associated to childhood issues, change of manners or personal problems. Meaningful answers could not be interpreted from the young boy Jimmy so the juvenile center was in question to whether this was right or wrong or he was guilty or not. The terrifying aspect is a teenager committing a first-degree murder in this case, the mental ability he had in order to commit such crime.

Sex abuse
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2010/05/13/2010-05-13_sex_abuse_charges_in_2_city_schools.html

A short but strikingly enough article. In our generation the world has been changing. In reference to issues in our society. In this article we see sexual assault from an 8 year old to a 6 year old. A shocking mind manipulation in our elementary children’s society and life/culture. The eight year old sodomized the six year old. That is horrific. It is not stated in this article but the parents of these children must mistreat them or the child has been through ‘sexually abusive’ nature in order to commit a crime like this. Nevertheless, a teacher from the same school was taken to court for sexually assaulting a student aged 20. Sexual assault might be committed because of strange mind manipulation, desperate feelings or aggression/need for pleasure and this is a very negative aspect and current issue in our worlds society as women can be left pregnant and many other severe cases might be brought up because of sexual assault.

Drug related crime
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk/8255418.stm

Not just in the UK, but all over the world one of the major aspects of recreational crime is the use of illegal substances being drugs. People who use heavy drugs such as heroin are most likely to commit crime such as theft, murder, harm because of their need of a ‘fix’ as their body is so dependant to the substance they would do anything for a hit. Usually people hooked up on heavy drugs start dealing or stealing in order to obtain a dose. Their whole life depends on this. "My life was just a shambles... waking up, chasing money, chasing drugs," he said. (a quote from a heroin addict in a hospital/rehab center in the UK) in this article the United Kingdom have made an association in order to reduce crime rate in their country. They have made surveys, which proved that drug related crime is the worst type. So hospitals have been prescribing heroin patients with doses so they do not go and steal or deal, hit their children, wives, etc. giving them their doses less and less day by day has reduced crime in a larger number. From about 1400 it went down to 500 a month. Drug related crime can be very negative as drugs ruin personalities of people who are dependant. These associations should be done as they work positively to reduce crime.

Reflection/Analysis

In our society man people are manipulated by various life factors having to do with crime. They will commit crime if they have to as they have no other option. Many people live poorly because of where they are situated. Drugs, weapons, aggressiveness and sex abuse are primary factors of crime. Police and help centres should be more aware of our society. Help centers should be open for drug addicts of people with mental disabilities that are most likely to commit crime. Fundraisers should be held more often in order to help the poor even though they exists in large quantities. The world today should change and go towards a positive direction instead of being so negative. The use of stimulants for the brain are not needed although they are heavily abused and there will always be drugs and crime. Associations should try make people aware of what they are doing in order to prevent crime as much as we can. Advertising, programming, use of internet, television, etc are ways in which we can make people aware. Strict laws should be passed for people committing crime. Many women can be left pregnant, lives are lost through drugs and murder because of this issue. It is a very big problem revolving today’s society that can be reduced!

Down Syndrome

Entry 7, April 26, 2010
Topic: Down Syndrome

What is Down syndrome? “A congenital disorder caused by having an extra 21st chromosome; results in a flat face and short stature and mental retardation” because of this slight so called ‘trisomy 21’ children are born with this mental defect which alters the brain and their natural growth so they might be seen as a little bit ‘strange’ to normal human beings.

Article 1: General facts on the disorder
Worldwide
http://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/down_syndrome.cfm

Down syndrome can have a variety of effects ranging from simple to complicated if it is put that way. Some might develop more of the symptom than others and have a more miserable life as it depends on the way the body ‘bares’ with it. Humans with this disease have certain abnormalities with their facial features which distinguishes they have this disease. Examples of these features are- slanted ears, irregular shaped eyes, strange vocal tone, pale faces and smaller body parts. Sadly this disease is incurable. The victims can only take part in certain exercises to do with the body and the brain in order to improve speech or gain motivation to increase their ability to ‘function’ or be fit. Others with a severe case can not do much about it. A terrifying fact about this disease- “The chance of having a baby with Down syndrome increases as a woman gets older—from about 1 in 1,250 for a woman who gets pregnant at age 25, to about 1 in 100 for a woman who gets pregnant at age 40. But, most babies with Down syndrome are born to women under age 35 because more younger women have babies.”

“Ouch, it’s a disability thing”
http://www.bbc.co.uk/ouch/interviews/13_questions_otto_baxter.shtml

I chose to do something different and outstanding for my second article. I found a BBC interview of someone who is going through this mental disability and has been for quite a while. Otto Baxter was born with down syndrome from the day he was born and he has gone through lots of ‘teasing’ because of his mental state. But as they interview him as a person he seems pretty normal and also goes through ‘puberty’ and has a natural ‘manly’ craving for women and sex. He shows us his interests and how he wants to be in a horror film. As well as that he tells us about his dislikes on cooking and how he cut himself (as you see people like this have feelings and can feel what a normal human being can feel) they have made a documentary about his life to prove people like this’ needs and affections and Otto has done very well. He has interests like any other being, he sits in front of the computer, enjoys food, etc. I think it’s a positive aspect to make people aware of people with down syndrome so they are not mistreated and made fun of as they have feelings and are humans too!

Article 3
United States of America
Learning about Down Syndrome
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4y0k7zRGQw

In this short clip, we see parents that have to face the ‘bad news’ within four months pregnancy that they will be giving birth to a baby with down syndrome. Doctors tend to look at this aspect in a negative way ad they do not warn the parents that although it is a disadvantage to give birth to a child with a health issue it could actually turn out very positive. Kids like these are nowadays given jobs and can participate in many conferences, games, sports, etc. Many organizations are held in the United States to give hope to children like this giving them opportunities to work and interact. Down Syndrome babies can actually live a very healthy and happy life if effort is put in to support them. Many parents end up aborting their children before they give birth as they do not want them to be ‘sick.’ But in our generation they should be able to live a healthy and non-violent based life.

Reflection & Analysis.
One in about one thousand two hundred and fifty children are born with Down syndrome around the world. In past generations people have been in some ways ‘racist’ or misunderstanding towards them. It is a chromosomal disorder, which makes the development of a human different than a normal human as they are born with one extra chromosome causing certain facial and mind-like defects. Other than that these people are normal and should not be mistreated, violated, made fun of or aborted. Every person or couple should have the chance to have a baby and live happily. It is well known that it is hard to keep up with a child’s behaviour if it is facing this illness but in our generation many organizations and interviews are made in order to make people aware of the lives of these victims. Schools, jobs, conferences and daily opportunities are given to them in order to be able to participate as equally as us. This makes people change their ‘old fashioned’ views on these chromosomal beings and let them live. No one should be discriminated for who they are/who they were born to be. We now live in a world of equality where people should be happy. I find this topic interesting as it goes against the ‘natural’ human way of living; we get to view other people and how they struggle to stay alive and happy whereas we have a healthy life and complain about the slightest issues. People have much more important issues in life than us, we should be thankful for who we are and give hope to people with chromosomal or any type of disorder! ☺

The Dark Side of the Internet

Entry 6, 16th April 2010
Topic: The Dark side of the Internet

Throughout the years of the human evolution people have started to avoid speaking in reality amongst themselves, as they have become regular users of the World Wide Web Internet services. In the past people had to meet up in person in order to communicate, as there was no use of mobile phones and computers. Now people use online cameras and programs such as “Skype” to communicate with each other. When it actually comes to meeting in person people tend to be more shy or nervous and this is because people have begun to become a lot more antisocial than before spending time behind their house walls on the computer playing games or using communication through the internet which has wrecked their personal character.

Article 1
Antisocial Behaviour
USA/Worldwide
http://people.hamilton.edu/bhouse/DoWeEncourage/DoWeEncourage5.html

People have been using computers worldwide more than anything, the use of post-mail, as well as telephones have been left out during this decade a lot. The constant use of computers has now been diagnosed as being a sort of disorder with socializing as well as psychological. “The character symptoms are a lack of safety for one's self, incapacity to feel guilt or shame, irresponsibility of social norms, disregard for rules, and a lack of concern for the feelings of others (www.mentalhealth.com).” As people don’t need to leave their homes in order to go ‘shopping’ they can use credit cards to buy almost anything online, they can have jobs and meet new people to create relationships so that means more usage of the computer constantly which leads to the addiction/disorder. A person that uses the net constantly is becoming more and more isolated to humanity as he uses this machine to do ‘what he wants’ in a non-real way. All around the world children and even adults that play video games also fall into the ‘isolated’ trap of spending ‘alone time.’ Their bodies get used to constant isolation and they start becoming aggressive, moody, anarchy-like disobeying rules and when it comes to socializing they lack confidence.
People should try and balance themselves out and use the internet when mostly needed or else it is most likely to fall in this trap and it is destroying our culture and youth.

Article 2
Is Facebook damaging your brain?
Global
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLopkYX5B54&feature=related

“Primary socializing virtually.” People develop virtual friendships online, talk through their problems online and ‘talk’ without interaction. Many people have fallen in the traps of this 2 dimensional program and loose their true personality. In this interview the woman is saying that she has 10 real friends whom she ‘hangs out with’ and talks through her issues, borrows money and spends time with. She comments on people that think they have ‘900 friends’ to talk and say hi to only and how it is not the same thing. This generation has a shorter attention span that people in previous decades as their mind is triggered to this ‘addiction’ and they begin to refer to normal life situations as ‘pointless.’ People have developed these autisms, social disorders, confidence issues as their mind adapts to being confident ‘online’ and not in reality so when it comes to face to face conversations not much is said.
Instead of people going out drinking, partying, working, rock and rolling, people spend time in front of a screen! Behind the walls of their houses currently ‘zombified’

Rape cases and credit card accounts
USA and Australia –ABC News
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9DMTQLG0&show_article=1
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/03/27/2857926.htm

In these 2 articles we see the real life based issues relating to the Internet that do not have to do with personality changes and game addictions. People are out there on the Internet, that steal and commit rape. In this case a young woman was raped and almost murdered after being sexually abuses as well as cyber bullied. Pictures of her nude body were posted on the net with vital comments revolving around sex. A few days after her report in order for them to be removed she was raped and almost knifed in her living room by two people with a false identity in the ‘cyber world.’ It is very hard to track people online as they can easily make up a false identity. There have been thousands of child abuse/pedophile-related cases via internet and social networking sites such as ‘Windows Messenger,’ ‘IM,’ ‘Myspace’ and even children’s sites. In the 2nd article there has been a serious record of a case of credit card ‘hacks’ and the person that was caught was sentenced 20 years of prison for repeatedly hacking big companies with large amounts of money. Credit Card hacking is easy to do with the technology we have this day. It is very dangerous as it is very hard to catch cyber criminals as no details are shown to prove their acts.

Reflection & Analysis
This topic is one of the most overused topics in today’s society, as 9 out of 10 people own not only one but two computers in one household. Many young teenagers have dropped traditions and cultures because of constant use of the internet and computer programs. Our generation’s most powerful addiction; believe it or not. Thousands of teenagers are playing online games and develop antisocial disorders and confidence problems. Families are broken because of net spending time behind the walls of their offices or bedrooms. Traditions and celebrations are forgotten as people spend time on social networks and downloading sites. Real friends become less and less as people think their 1000 online friends are more important to spend time with and say hello to.
On the other hand when internet based issues are not related to confidence disorders they are related to reality. There are many sick minded people out there that try to get children’s attention pretending and lying about their ages, acting friendly and when it comes to meeting the children they are actual men that commit pedophilia. Young minds can fall into severe traps as they are easily persuaded and parents do not give them a lot of attention. Nowadays with the internet ANYONE can edit someone’s picture and turn it into a pornographic based topic. Cases of child abuse and rape have been reported from families and this is where youth culture personality is destroyed, as it will stay within the children with these experiences forever.
Be aware of your personal details on social networking sites such as facebook and what images you post of yourself, what details you allow people to see about you and your identity. Be aware of your children and what sites they surf, videos they stream and you yourself mind the details you give out when you order objects online. Never give out any passwords or fall into ‘stranger-related traps.’ ‘Cyber friends’ are not real friends! Remember you live once so live to the maximum of your ability. Basing your life on a screen will not give you your full enjoyment as there is so much out there! ☺

Crystal Methamphetamine

Entry 5, March 15
Topic: Drug Culture, Crystal Meth.

Drugs have existed for millions of years on our planet. People have constantly used them, even back in the stone-age ‘hemp’ was growing everywhere and they used it for clothes and rope materials, etc. As the human evolution grew out, more man-made substances entered our planet one of them being alcohol the most overly-used drug. Nevertheless, other much more vital substances have been made such as cocaine, heroin, LSD and now recently the largest killer of all- Crystal Methamphetamine. Its recognition has been low but it has caused numerous deaths and has made people suffer when they have tried to give it up.

In this section we get students from high schools and collages to give us a personal opinion of why people start using drugs and go on to harder drugs. We also get a small interview with a pre-meth addict which shows us how his life was ruined through a substance. There is an explanation of the particles (dopamine) the brain releases when you intake the drug and how the brain eventually dies out and you need the ‘high’ constantly. You become the drug. It shows us where it is made and makes us aware of part of its dangers. Furthermore in part 3 we come to hear the experiences of different addicts and how they did things they never thought they would do for in order to experience the feeling again. It becomes a world of misery and depression. Stealing, killing, dealing other substances and using your own body for prostitution. Almost like heroin. The start of the noticeable personality changes, unexpected ‘murders.’ The respect of a life is released as it costs more than gold, the dependency is so strong that the addict will sell his mother or baby for his/her next fix. As parents part 4, gives examples of parents that were unaware of what their children were doing and how they lead to their destruction. Parents should always be aware of what their children are doing and ask questions.

Article 2 News & Politics – Youtube
Meth also known as Yaba in Thailand. From "World's Most Dangerous Drug
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JgHevMAf4M&feature=related

This article which is a short clip, is my favorite one on this subject. It starts of telling us what crystal meth was first used for which was for the war (Japanese), it tricks your brain into not being hungry and not sleeping. People/soldiers in the war took it in order to stay awake for days so they would fight more. In Thailand it is overused by the locals as they lack the ability to live in our conditions. They are poor and need to stay awake to work and eat as less as possible. (Example: taxi drivers, builders, painters). It called “Yaba” in Thailand. There’s an interview with a painter who says he uses Yaba to gain energy and work constantly because of the energy boost, and no need to sleep. Without it the body feels ‘weak.’ But these victims who overuse it end up wasting all their working money on more doses instead of supporting their family. Lack of sleep and more meth may cause death as the body needs a certain amount of sleep daily and you break this chain constantly. A strike by police was done in order to catch the dealers so people would not do it so freely and people are more aware of its circumstances. Women working as prostitutes start using it in order to work more hours to be with more men in order to get wealthier for the time being in order to send money to their families abroad. They don’t have the urge to eat as the brains neurons are tricked as soon as the ‘hit’ takes place. But once again the money ends up buying more meth instead of caring for the family. In this documentary it does not only give us facts and interviews of people that use it in their daily lives, it also shows us the way it triggers and alters the brain. I will explain exactly what is said in the video as it is very useful. – “Meth travels through the blood stream and into the brain and causes the brain to release dopamine- the ‘pleasure’ cells in the brain which are activated from eating and sexual intercourse. 12 hundred units are triggered with one hit of meth. That is about 1000 times more than a regular feeling of pleasure during intercourse.” It clearly shows the dependency of people and how they start destroying their lives. It is the most addictive drug comparing to heroine on the planet. Its users are increasing daily.

Crystal meth: Britain's deadliest drug problem

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/04/AR2005110402178.html

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/crystal-meth-britains-deadliest-drug-problem-425161.html

Linking two sites that have many things in common just to get the balance out of their similarities. Here are some cases of meth use in the United States and Britain. The countries will have to turn the value of the drug from class B to class A because of its rapid overuse, more patients found in clinics, rehab centers, struggling addicts and deaths. It is highly comparable to ‘crack’ cocaine and heroin. People are unaware of it as it has recently entered the ‘drug market’ and people were not aware of its symptoms and effects. It is well known in the gay community (?), club life and middle class working society. Many meth-making-laboratories were discovered and were taken to court during the past two years. Britain as well as the States are soon predicted to have the same problem as Australia did. One laboratory turned into hundreds in a very short period of time because of its addiction rate and usage. The substances such as iodine that are used in the production of the drug are HIGHLY toxic and can destroy the brain neurons, nervous and cardiovascular system. Recovering addicts have to face unbearable with drawl symptoms, depression, paranoia, craving and a huge amount of commitment. People do it because it’s ‘cool’ and get hooked on it and then have to face this trouble when they realize their mistake because it is too late.

Reflection/ Analysis
BE AWARE. This man-made substance which has not fully been acknowledged in our community IS as frightening as heroin. In my opinion it is more dangerous than heroin. It is rapidly increasing in its usage and is become more and more popular. Its effects are almost fatal and can last for a long period of time. Early users will not notice this until they fully depend on it, and yes it will destroy their lives. Money problems and health issues will start arising uncontrollably as the users will be looking for their ‘next’ fix. This drug is man-made in laboratories with the most toxic substances blended and heated together. The possibility of dying after the first hit is increase by 60% as the body is not able to fight against them. Many users struggle to face their addiction and face copious with drawl effects and terrifying experiences as they try to give up the drug. It has become a current world issue as it is slowly recognized everywhere in the world; especially in Europe, Australia and the Americas. It was first used in the Japanese war and amongst the gay community but when people discovered it is has become ‘famous.’ Its effects are so powerful because it strikes one hundred times more dopamine in the brain than the normal rate. All it takes is doing it once so in my opinion it should be classified as a class A drug and programs, projects should be made to make people aware of it. DO NOT USE IT! :)

Demonic Possession

Entry 4, March 08
Topic: Demonic Possession

Sad but true, demonic possession is true. It is not just religion based, religion does extend to make it biased but in the past there have been the one in a million; yet to be done-demonically possessed people. It is a terrifying phenomenon in our society as it is too serious to be true. Nevertheless, people that have been possessed start to act strange by being isolated, personality and appearance also goes in opposite directions, start having blackouts, perform humiliating acts such as urinating them selves without being able to control it and conflict violence. These would be the first stages, where a normal human wouldn’t be 100% of what the patient has. It gets worse though! You never know. They have someone else controlling them inside. This could even be fatal.

Woman levitated, spoke other languages, showed paranormal powers
2010 WorldNetDaily
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=58835

"Mentally troubled individuals often 'dissociate,' but Julia's trances were accompanied by an unusual phenomenon: Out of her mouth would come various threats, taunts and scatological language, phrases like 'Leave her alone, you idiot,' 'She's ours,' 'Leave, you imbecile priest,' or just 'Leave.’’ In this case, this woman performed unusual character as well as spoke inappropriately, levitated and did abnormal things but never seemed to remember anything. Examined by doctors, psychiatrists, religious nuns, priests and people of a higher education her case was concluded to being demonic possession. The only way she could be cured was through a person who would bring the forces out of her- a priest. Through the process of ‘exorcism.’ When this was performed she gave away very hurtful and foul language to people she had never seen before, gained strength to manage to fight against 3 people that were holding her down, and the room became ‘unbearable from the heat’ from being normal.

Story of a demonic possessed and exorcism
Discovery Channel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGMKGvhaQTU
Similar to article 1, but in a more biased way, as it is acted with audiovisual effect this documentary based on a true story gives us the life of a woman with one son who suddenly becomes demonically possessed and can not control herself. She starts acting very strangely and almost kills her son in the car by speeding. This is because her uncontrollable self or the spirit that haunts her takes action in her body. After time she has to have an exorcism because it all gets worse. As she goes to the church you can see the demonic reactions as the priest applies a holy cross on her forehead. The blasphemous words that come out of her during the exorcism, as well as the strange but powerful self that can take over three people holding her down is witness to be the ‘demon.’ By the end of the exorcism when she is ‘normal’ she sheds to tears because she is back to her self. She does not feel weak anymore or ‘controlled’ this shows how demonic possession can be severe and its rare but uncontrollable.

The Exorcism-based on a true story- documented exorcism in 1949
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=exorcist.htm

Based on a true story that happened to a young boy in 1949, now written as a novel and a movie. The terrifying life of a young girl begins at the age of 14 when she is demonically possessed and starts acting psychologically ill. Her parents can not explain the ‘unusual’ personality she has, and neither can the psychiatrists that confront her with various sicknesses which are proven to be false as they find out she is possessed. She goes through countless suffering moments but is exorcised at the end. She gives the well known ‘demonic’ reactions as she screams out insulting words and has unbelievable powers suddenly for a young girl. She shakes uncontrollably but gets over it after the exorcism.

Reflection/Analysis:
This is not well known to be a current world issue in our society. It does not have to do with people, economy, destruction, drug culture or anything like that. It is a very rare phenomenon that occurs to very few people. It came to my interest on a very high level as an ‘issue’ because the people that have to face this terrifying experience will be scarred of their lifetime. It might not be as serious as a country facing an earthquake or a hazard, but psychologically and emotionally it will ruin your personality, even if you survive the ‘demon.’ It is interesting how an every day person living his every day life can obtain possession even though he/she does not believe in religion. This is where religion comes to action as not being ‘biased’ and controlling people, taking their money, etc. personally I do not believe in a religion, as they are all forms of mind control which is also an issue. But when it comes to these mysterious cases, let there be a god! People do not deserve such experiences and this is what scares me that its out there! As people should be aware, not to use unknown objects in their culture such as an Ouiji board, black magic and spiritual aspects of life, if they are not trained to, because this might lead to a connection of an unpleasant spirit, etc, it might sound ironic but it has happened before. Live life casually and never do things out of curiosity! Enough issues take place on our planet; let this be the least of our concern.

Earthquakes!

Entry 3, March 1st
Topic: Earthquakes

What is an earthquake? Shaking and vibration at the surface of the earth resulting from underground movement along a fault plane or from volcanic activity.
Earthquakes have been going on for millions of centuries on our planet. They have caused or created many disasters and devastations. Many houses, cities and countries have been completely destroyed and millions of people have lost their lives, and the ones that survive have to start new lives as their homes have turned to dust and have no food, money or economy. Earthquakes can create a huge problem if the country has no economy to support it as everything will break.
So many countries struggle having to put up with them. On top of that, investments and money and outrageous effort must be put to put a country back together after everything has been destroyed. This can cause a mental and physical downfall in people’s lives as they lose hope and have to try harder to get back to their past positions as they remain unemployed.

Rare Earthquake Hits Haiti

In this documentary/small clip we hear what some of the geologists and people that predicted the Haiti earthquake happening had to say. It goes on to talk about Haiti’s economy, being very poor as many people started loosing their lives within the first ten minutes of the earthquake. More than thirty thousand people lost their lives as all buildings collapsed and there was no hope. The Americans predicted it happening as they had signals from the Richter scale going high which was ‘unusual’ but they knew that sometime Haiti would be struck with an earthquake because of the two plates that were getting closer and closer to each other. Eight earthquakes have taken place in that area in two hundred and twenty years. “7.0 Richter earthquake is equivalent to 32,000 atomic bombs!” Now many people from all around the world are trying to raise money to fix up the economy in Haiti and to help the surviving members of this disaster.

In May, 2008, what is now called the 8.0 Richter Sichuan earth quake hit Sichuan, China and killed sixty eight thousand people. Up to five million people lost their homes, and around twenty thousand where never found again. This had killed the economy of the country as they had to raise over one trillion yuan(Chinese currency) in order to bring the country back to its original state. Many people lost their lives although they survived because they had no water or food and the ability to survive after the destruction of almost every building in the country. This earthquake was the second most violent tremor that ever occurred in the history of China. Luckily some people were found amongst the ruins of the collapsed buildings and managed to live on. Others were completely killed to pieces. One of the downfalls of this event was that on top of the destruction, the country faced large amounts of rain as well as rockslides during the period of scavenging for alive people to save their lives; this made it a lot harder, as the rescuing teams would not dare walk into certain areas and more people lost their lives.

2010 Earthquake (Magnitude 8.8) and Tsunami hit Chile affecting the capital Santiago
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdnGQkyhIII

Our most recent earthquake took place on 27 February 2010 in Chile with a magnitude of 8.8 and not only, a diagnosed tsunami being formed with an unknown date. They had no signs of electricity and the death rate of humans was rising over the next few days after the earthquake. By the end there were around 730 deaths, thousands injured and bridges, motorways, houses and buildings destroyed. It is said that about four years of rebuilding will need to take place in order to cover the damages. Not many people were injured compared to Haiti because of the country’s economy. Nevertheless, the country is scared of an upcoming tsunami that might turn the country into bits. Otherwise survivors have been given homes and places to stay until they recover. This earthquake has been one of the strongest recent earthquakes known, and has causes numerous important buildings such as the governmental building of Chile, contemporary art building to be damaged.

Reflection

For thousands or even millions of years because of the earth’s tectonic plates many global disasters have taken place. Earthquakes being one of the most important or disastrous.
Many people in the world who have to face earthquakes have lost their lives, are injured and physically have to put up with the after effects. Many economies have been destroyed because of buildings collapsing as well as roads and houses. People that are left homeless and have children have to struggle with and keep them alive. Whenever an earthquake occurs it becomes a huge issue because of all these things. Our most recent disaster being the earthquake in Haiti has been unbelievable as the whole country was destroyed. In my opinion I think as a global nation we should help other countries who have a poor economy to fix their way of living. Many of us have given charity money to help Haiti. (Even myself through music). These disasters can not be avoided as they occur naturally, but we should help countries to stabilize and be ready for them.

Mind Control

Entry 2, February

TOPIC: Mind Control

All around the world people watch television, watch movies, cartoons, buy unwanted/un-needed products and obey useless directions. Don’t you think there is something behind that? In my opinion this is called MIND CONTROL. People that live a fake life in their living rooms watching and believing everything the television says. The television ‘world’ kills! Sending subliminal messages, giving fake facts, making you feel uncomfortable so you take actions considering it in order to have a ‘happier’ life which ends miserably. The Media are making a lot of money through this process of mind control which could be through television, adverts and religion. As well as that, baring in mind that mind control originated from the far past of WW2, as Nazis kidnapped children and killed others to their eyes in order to bring up fear into their living so they would obey- this is also a form of mind control. Using sufficient substance abuse to alter the human mind is also another way of doing it excluding technology and media and that seemed to work for a period of time.

Mind Control 1.0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmeCg76rn50

In this documentary clip, it goes on and talks about different techniques that people are absorbed into in order to live a fake reality. A Islamic believer shows his aspects of mind control through various ways through the media and then it goes on to show facts about Disney cartoons that draw children in but behind everything they send subliminal messages of the word ‘sex’ and show various sex-like positions that children do not seem to realize but are drawn into so much that they keep watching over and over. People have ended up buying products they don’t need to have just to fit into our ‘high class’ society as they watch models and ‘tv stars’ with sunglasses and facial products, etc. Our society is becoming much more isolated instead of living reality, trapped inside their house walls with televisions, food and no noise, lacking the real life enjoyment. This article is trying to tell us that the media is controlling humans to the point that they become fake! ‘Do you own your kids, or do the media own your kids?’ Children enjoy more television time than TV time and want more and more toys based on Barbie and Disney, etc. There should be changes in the world considering these facts.

The Secrets of Mind Control
Mind Control Doctors
http://www.wanttoknow.info/mindcontrol

This article goes on to tell us how mind control projects resulted in extensive political abuse of psychiatry, people actually did experiments on PEOPLE! Using electric shock forms, drugs such as LSD (psychoactive drug) on children aged 5, electrode brain implantations, uranium injections into the brain and these negative ways of controlling the mind; which was done as a project resulted in drug disinhibition, prolonged sleep, and prolonged psychological isolation. On one of the patients they tripled the amount of electric shock which was meant to be used and this lead to total amnesia. (Amnesia: not having the ability to remember anything). Now it has become strictly illegal to do this to humans because that decreases life span and mental health. In order for people to live naturally and be healthy they shouldn’t be mind controlled through substances and abuse.

Article 3: Germany
The Ultimate Terror
Mind Control
http://educate-yourself.org/mc/

This documentary based article tells us the truths about Nazi Germany in WW2 and how mind control took place from its origins without using media and subliminal messages to alter the mind. Instead, conflicting violence to build up fear in order for children to obey rules. “threatens virtually all of humanity, is to understand how it functions and take steps to reduce your vulnerability.” Because of the concentration camps the Nazis had, there were many people that could use the victims from there in order to experiment as they were frightened and available for experimentation. “The victim of mind control can also be affected by specific sounds, words, or actions known as triggers.” The children that survived the caging and beating were further on used for sexual abuse or assassination. The Nazis used the form of live slaughtering in front of the children in order to scare them and make them do what they wanted them to do. That was a traumatizing and brutal form of controlling the mind.

Reflection and Analysis:
Mind altering substance usage such as LSD, other forms of shock, and brainwashing techniques are all ways to control the human mind. Through the years going back to Nazi Germany, people, and children were brutalized, brought into fear in order to obey as they had no choice which was an easy way to control the mind. Having to see people loose their lives, etc made you listen. Furthermore into the future, through media and television, adverts and films people are becoming more and more isolated and mind altered as they live a fake life having to buy pointless products to ‘be happy’ although they don’t need them. Following different trends and fashions in order to fit into their surroundings. Baring in mind, all the children that follow subliminal messages unnoticeably and want to buy useless toys, watch cartoons forever and never listen to their parents. Doesn’t that mean that our society is facing a downfall? Most of the arts, music and creative thinking sectors have shrunk because people have images of ‘if you are not a doctor/lawyer you will not have money to raise a family’ is that not mind controlling? We have to try to find ways of entertaining people without technology and movies, adverts. Involve them in more concerts, outdoor events and sports to enjoy life as it should be! But this is in my own opinion.

Entry 1, Decriminalizing Marijuana

Entry 1, February 05

Topic: Decriminalizing Marijuana

Marijuana has been a serious issue worldwide in our community. It has been viewed in many different aspects through different cultures around the world. It has faced certain critiques as well as understandings. Many countries have different aspects of its use and put out different laws depending on their views. Countries such as Holland, Canada, Jamaica, and Iran go for its use and decriminalization whereas countries such as Cyprus, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates have strict laws against it. It has been misused in many places but used wisely (as a hemp plant) in many others to produce clothes, ropes as well as medical care.

Article 1: Canada
CBC News
In depth Marijuana: Canada's marijuana law and the debate over decriminalization
http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/marijuana/marijuana_legalize.html

The article examines the issue of the use of cannabis in Canada. It goes on to talk about how people use it personally, and have rights to own a certain amount. Breaking the rules will lead to a fine. But as a nation, Canada is very calm with the use, as it is used medically in patients who suffer from Scoliosis, sleeping disorders, etc.
“Cannabis is less harmful than alcohol and should be treated not as a criminal issue but as a social and public health issue” a quote said from Nolin (part of the article). They go against criminal records as they don’t see it as a ‘drug’ so people caught with possession are charged fines and not sentenced to prison.

Article 2: USA & Mexico
CNN News
Former Mexican official urges legalizing marijuana
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/02/02/us.mexico.marijuana/index.html

“The United States and Mexico should both legalize marijuana in an attempt to break the power of the Mexican drug cartels and end the spiraling violence south of the border, a former Mexican foreign minister said Tuesday.” They say that its impossible to stop distribution of marijuana in the United States through Mexico as some states such as California distribute marijuana legally for medical purpose. It states that other countries such as Afghanistan smuggle drugs such as heroin and no one does anything to stop them because the government is making profit, so the hemp plant shouldn’t be even considered anything in front of Class A drugs being trafficked. X-rayed machines will be put up on the border to take some control of the cars that are passing for weapons, etc through the Mexican border, but as for hemp, it does not seem to bother them.

Article 3: Portugal
Time News
Drugs in Portugal: Did Decriminalization Work?
http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1893946,00.html
Portugal decriminalized, not only marijuana but every other drug in their country, literally dropping down the laws and not putting people into prison for possession; instead they send people with possession to psychologists, health care, community service, as they say that prison drives ‘addicts’ or ‘users’ to a downfall in life. The drug use rate rapidly decreased in the country which proves other countries wrong for fearing decriminalization. Less people actually smoked marijuana as it wasn’t considered a ‘serious matter’ and people didn’t really care. “Proportionally, more Americans have used cocaine than Portuguese have used marijuana.”

Reflection/Analysis
In my opinion, I do not see the hemp plant as being something strikingly illegal. It was used for thousands of years even before Christ to produce products such as ropes, clothes, footwear, etc. Through-out the past, it has been consumed by humans worldwide. Some over users go towards a downfall as they face laziness, depression and emotional stress/feelings and many other disorders such as forgetting a lot, sleeping disorders, mood swings. On the other hand though, the hemp plant being worldwide as well as know as a fact, it is the fastest growing plant on the planet. So in my personal opinion I don’t consider it being a drug, it is just a mind altering substance. In California as said it is used for medical reasons to cure patients that have to fight through Scoliosis (back pains), have sleeping disorders, appetite disorders and illnesses revolving in this sector. If it is used wisely and within boundaries it can be a positive aspect in human life as it also relieves stress. Countries such as Portugal and Holland decriminalized it in order to reduce the usage of other substances such as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. And this plan seems to work very well as people use hemp instead of Class A drugs. It has reduced crime and drug intake rate. Hemp as a substance was going to replace paper at one point in history, and some American law was written on hemp too. People that use this plant wisely don’t seem to have an altering lifestyle and it does not affect their personality. So I think if marijuana was decriminalized for personal use as well as medical it would not be a problem in today’s society as drug & crime intake would reduce and people will view everything differently. Other countries have strict laws though as they have different political views, but in my opinion it should be decriminalized.
