Week 3
Issue: North Korea keeps up with their nuclear program. The USA wants to take military action to destroy this but they don’t, knowing that North Korea could destroy the South in a couple of hours if any action took place against them. As well as that, it has been heard that the North wants to supply Iran & Syria with nuclear weapons (terrorists included). 90% of what goes into Korea comes through China (ex. Food & fuel) so China should toughen up on Korea.
Significances:
1) If North Korea gives nuclear weapons to terrorists there could be a possible occurrence of a war because the nuclear weapons will be used. South Korea will be affected if any US military takes action towards the North.
2) The Koreans have an impact on the US, and Iran/Syria. Everyone fears the Koreans because they are such an isolated communist country. Threats have been made but Korea can’t take action because many countries can be destroyed.
Analysis:
1) This article is useful as well as appropriate because actually you can discuss whether it is biased or not. I don’t think that any country is serious enough to launch nuclear weapons between each other because that can cause a huge issue.
2) It is reliable in the sense that Korea does want to sell Iran or Syria nuclear weapons. And we can discuss what may happen if this is done; major threats will be seen all the time so nothing takes place.
Quote: “The leaders and the army are well fed; they’re the only ones who are taken care of. They don’t seem to give a damn about the rest of the people are so beaten down that they become compliant.”

Hiroshima - Nagasaki Atomic bombing 1945 Aug
(Hiroshima - Nagasaki Atomic bombing 1945 Aug)
Issue: This video has to do with the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, when America's president Harry S. Truman ordered to drop the bombs in those 2 cities. America had been at war in WW2 against the Japanese Empire. The bombs were dropped on the 6th & 9th of August 1945. The bombs killed as many as 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki by the end of 1945.
Significances:
1) The nuclear bombings killed millions of people . Many sicknesses arose after this event because of the high levels of radiation. Many people started dying from leukemia, getting cancer, and dying from serious body infections. This lead to the end of the Pacific war and WW2 as well as the bannings of nuclear weapons being used.
2) Nowadays in these cities, throughout various generations, still women are known to give birth to 'deformed' children, for example- kids are born with 3 hands or legs, deformations in the face, or even conjoined children who have a higher risk of dying after operations. This is happening still after so many years because there is still a certain level of radiation within the city, which causes these 'side effects'.
Analysis:
1) We can analyze why or what caused America to let out the bombs, and what destruction was caused after the explosions. (the whole city was wrecked). I think this video is in many ways not bias because it shows exactly what happened in August 1945

Global Warming Issue
Issue: Global Warming, is a worldwide issue to do with the world’s increase in temperature.
Significances:
1) The whole world is or will eventually be affected by Global Warming. Since there is a rise in temperature, an increase of carbon dioxide in the air, the melting of the ice caps, as well as the increase of the greenhouse gases.
2) If sea levels start to rise, there will be more deserts, extreme weather conditions will start happening, more animals will become extinct and strange agricultural problems will occur.
Analysis:
1) We can go through how human activity affects the world, for example- too many factories, too many vehicles, etc make the increase of carbon dioxide.
2) It may be biased, it might be just a worldwide change, but it seems reliable because of clues and proven facts about human activity so the article seems useful.
Quote: “Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would never have warmed enough to allow life to form. But as ever larger amounts of carbon dioxide have been released along with the development of industrial economies, the atmosphere has grown warmer at an accelerating rate: Since 1970, temperatures have gone up at nearly three times the average for the 20th century.”
